egot kısaltması, kuzey amerika'daki dört büyük sahne sanatları ödülünü ifade ediyor: emmy, grammy, oscar ve tony. bu ödüllerin tümünü kazanmak, eğlence dünyasının en imrenilen başarılarından biri. ancak durum her zaman böyle değildi. aslında bu başarı, 1984 yılında miami vice (1984-89) dizisinde rol alan philip michael thomas'ın isteklerini tanımlamak için egot terimini bulmasına kadar büyük ölçüde tanınmıyordu. hatta bu kısaltmanın madalyona kazındığı bir kolye bile takmıştı. ancak egot, terimin ve thomas'ın kolyesinin 30 rock (2006-13) adlı sitcomun bir bölümünde hikaye konusu olduğu 2009 yılına kadar bir meraktan biraz daha fazlası olarak kaldı. egot daha sonra halkın hayal gücünü yakaladı ve birçok şovmen için bir hedef haline geldi.
